Welcome to Jazzle Bengals!!!

Jazzle Bengals is a team effort between Paula and Chris Elson, DVM, CVA. We are located in beautiful Saratoga County near Albany, New York.

Chris is a very accomplished veterinarian. He is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute and in Stem Cell Therapy. His experience also includes physical rehabilitation and nutritional therapy. Chris has years of experience in emergency medicine and loves being a veterinarian. He is one of the most ethical veterinarians I have ever known in my years of working with animals, and I say that not because he is my husband but I have seen the difference.

Chris has been working with animals all of his life as he started working in vet hospitals at 13 years old and is a great dad to all of our Bengals, 4 domestic cats and 3 dogs.

It was his interest in Bengals that got us started with this breed.

As the main person at Jazzle, I bring with me years of experience and education in animal behavior, health, showing and ethics. As a retired pet groomer, I have seen more than enough in 20 years to know that if one is going to breed then we need breeders who will be serious about breeding the healthiest cats they can. This is why we spend so much on health screenings and care for our Bengals. This way we know that we have greatly reduced the risk of future health problems for the kittens we bring into the world.

We do echocardiograms every 6 months on our boys and every 12 months on our girls. We do this to know if we are breeding a cat with a known problem not because we have a problem. It cannot guarantee we will never find an issue later but it greatly reduces the risk of breeding cats that are showing signs of heart disease at the time of breeding. All of our cats are screened by only a Board Certified Cardiologist and he does them in person, not through telemedicine. If we did not do this then we would not be breeding responsibly.

We are always adding information to our site on health and behavior. Check back often!!!

We are honest in our presentation of our Bengals. We do not alter our photos nor do we build them up to be more than they are in order to sell kittens.

I have been involved with animals all of my life as I come form a multi-pet family. Horses took up most of my early years and since 9 years old have been totally immersed in horses, dogs and cats. My horse career took me through being an exhibitor, instructor, trainer and judge. I did show horses for other people on the Ontario Quarter Horse Circuit for a while.

I downsized to dogs and was the founder and trainer of the 1997 North American Flyball Champions and World Record holders at that time. When I learned that this was not in the best interest of the dogs I loved I became an addict of Obedience and did some sheepherding as well.

My Border Collie, Ice, was the #1 Obedience Dog in Canada for 2000 and competed successfully in herding. Our Mixed Breed, Cheeta, was the #1 Obedience Mixed Breed in UKC for 2005 and 2006, and also the Highest Scoring Mixed Breed for 2001. She earned her UOCH very quickly with 6 consecutive HITs. She is very well known in both the US and Canada.

Our Australian Kelpies have been the top Kelpies in Obedience in both the US and Canada. Score did not show a lot as he was diagnosed very young with kidney issues so got spoiled rotten instead. Sting, however, has been an awesome Obedience dog and quite the little herding dog too. Sting is almost finished his Canadian Grand Master Obedience Championship. Just have to get back there to show.

All of our competition dogs are multi HIT (Highest Scoring In Trial) winners and are very proud of them. Currently we are growing up Cheers, a beautiful little Border Collie, also known as Brackenhill Ewe Go Girl CD. Between working with the Bengals she finally earned her CD with 3 HITS. Currently, she is training towards her CDX and UD.

A few years ago we took our intense knowledge of animals and breeding to the Bengal world and work with the same professionalism, intensity and warm heart it takes to work at the level of quality we are used to.

Cat shows are a great place not only to see friends and the knowledge gained at the shows is valuable. I believe that sit is.good to get out to see the other cats in person. The best cats do not always win but we do like to mee
t them in real life.We have done a cat and dog show at the same time which really is interesting.

Though, we are now cutting back substantially on showing our cats as there are exhbitors bringing unhealthy cats to shows that pose a great risk to our Bengals. It is too easy to bring home an upper respiratory infection or worse from a show. We have also learned that ribbons and titles do not guarantee the quality of the cat and certainly not the health. We also find our money better spent on health and care for our Bengals.

Quite a few of our cats have had success in the show ring and showing Player to his Supreme Grand Champion and Regional Winners status was fun. Our homebred girl, Regional Winner and Quadruple Grand Champion Jazzle Cute to Boot, has also made us proud. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit is very much here.

We do continue to show our dogs in Obedience but feel safer leaving the cats home, where they would rather be.
